Hello, I’m Lindsey Gutierrez. I am Cathy Cook’s associate attorney. My primary areas of practice are family law and criminal defense. This includes divorce, dissolution, child support, spousal support, custody and visitation matters for non-married parents, and all criminal defense matters, including felony, misdemeanor, juvenile and appellate cases. I specifically chose these areas of law to concentrate my practice because they allow me to develop a close and trusting relationship with my clients. It is very important to me that my clients receive the best possible representation and feel confident that I am dedicated to their case.
I received my Juris Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in May 2008. At the College of Law, I was a member of the Moot Court Executive Honor Board, Immigration and Nationality Law Review, Human Rights Quarterly, and participated in the Indigent Defense Clinic through the Ohio Justice and Policy Center. During law school, I worked for the Ohio Innocence Project and the Denver Office of the Colorado State Public Defender. Prior to joining Cathy’s office, I was an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Ravert J. Clark, where I primarily focused my practice on criminal defense and family law issues.
In my years of practicing, I have been fortunate enough to obtain a great deal of beneficial experience. I was co-counsel in a high profile murder case profiled on Dateline NBC. I successfully appeared before the Ohio Supreme Court addressing a significant issue faced by appellate courts across Ohio, regarding whether a predicate offense and felony murder are allied offenses of similar import. Additionally, I have litigated many criminal and family law matters in courts across Southern Ohio. This extensive experience helped me to become very comfortable in the courtroom and greatly enhanced my ability to manage difficult cases and closely relate with my clients.
I assist in the teaching of two criminal defense courses at the University of Cincinnati College of Law. I also present at seminars on using social media sites, such as Facebook and Myspace, to investigate and prepare your case. I enjoy learning and teaching about the most up-to-date approaches to providing clients with the best representation.
On a personal note, I am originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico. I attended undergraduate school at the University of New Mexico. I married my wonderful husband last September in Vail, Colorado. We recently purchased a new home and are enjoying making it our own.
